CHAPTER 01

A father hears the dream

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

Yusuf tells Ya‘qub of a dream involving eleven stars, the sun, and the moon. Ya‘qub recognizes its significance and cautions him not to relate it to his brothers, lest they plot against him. He speaks of Allah’s favor upon Yusuf and the earlier favor upon Ibrahim and Ishaq.

The brothers’ resentment then develops into a plan to remove Yusuf. When they ask to take him out with them, Ya‘qub expresses concern. They return with a false explanation and blood on his shirt. Ya‘qub does not accept the account and seeks patience and Allah’s help.

His story runs alongside Yusuf’s rather than beginning and ending with the reunion. It shows a father’s insight, the difficulty of protecting a child amid family conflict, and a response to loss that does not require pretending the loss is small. His patience is a relationship with Allah within grief, not indifference to what has happened.
