CHAPTER 03

The forbidden tree and repentance

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

Adam and his wife are permitted to enjoy the Garden, with a prohibition concerning one tree. Satan whispers to them and presents disobedience as a route to lasting benefit. After they eat, their nakedness becomes apparent and they try to cover themselves with leaves. The promised gain is exposed as deception.

Their response differs from Iblis’s. They acknowledge that they have wronged themselves and ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy. Surah Taha describes Adam’s lapse, followed by Allah choosing him, accepting his repentance, and guiding him. The story contains a genuine moral failure and a genuine return; neither should be removed from the account.

The Qur’an does not name the species of tree or attribute the error exclusively to Adam’s wife. Popular details about an apple or a unique female blame should not replace the text. The lesson rests on the revealed contrast between proud resistance and humble repentance, followed by guidance for life on earth.
