CHAPTER 04

The throne and the recognition of faith

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

Sulayman asks which of those present can bring the queen’s throne before she arrives. It is brought, and he immediately recognizes the event as a favor from his Lord that tests whether he will be grateful. The extraordinary occurrence is directed toward gratitude, not self-exaltation.

The throne is altered to test recognition. On arrival, the queen responds cautiously to what she sees. She later mistakes the palace’s glass surface for water before its nature is explained. The account ends with her acknowledgment of wrongdoing and submission with Sulayman to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

The Qur’an does not name the person described as having knowledge from the Book or explain an engineering process for moving the throne. The unseen and extraordinary elements should remain within the revealed account. The ending concerns corrected worship, not devotion to Sulayman as a person. That distinction gives the story its direction.
