Maryam’s care and a renewed prayer

The account of Maryam’s household describes her mother’s dedication and Zakariyya’s care for her. When he enters her place of worship, he finds provision and asks about its source. Her response points to Allah’s provision without measure. The passage then records his prayer for good offspring.
The sequence links observation with supplication. Zakariyya’s hope is not detached from his service to another person. He is caring for Maryam while also carrying his own concern about descendants and the continuation of faithful service.
The angels announce Yahya while Zakariyya is standing in prayer. Yahya will confirm a word from Allah, be honorable and chaste, and be a prophet among the righteous. Zakariyya is surprised at the promise given his age and his wife’s inability to bear children. The account directs attention to Allah’s will rather than to an expected natural timetable.
