CHAPTER 03

The sign and remembrance

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

Zakariyya asks for a sign. He is told that he will not speak to people for a period while otherwise sound, and he comes out to his people signaling them to glorify Allah morning and evening. Surah Al ‘Imran mentions communication by gestures and commands abundant remembrance.

The sign is not an invitation to speculate about a medical diagnosis. In the account it marks the promised event and directs Zakariyya and the people toward worship. The narrative then turns to Yahya’s own qualities and mission.

Zakariyya’s collection closes with prayer answered and responsibility renewed. Later stories about the manner of his death are not established by these cited passages and are not asserted as part of the core narrative. Remember his care for Maryam, the quiet request, the glad tidings, and the sign joined to remembrance.
