The disciples and the table

When ‘Isa perceives rejection, he asks who will be helpers in Allah’s cause. The disciples declare belief and a willingness to be his helpers, asking to be counted with witnesses. Their response is a part of the mission’s history alongside the resistance it encounters.
Surah Al-Ma’idah recounts their request for a table spread from heaven. They explain their desire to eat, have their hearts reassured, know the truth of the message, and bear witness. ‘Isa prays for it as a provision, a sign, and a festival for the first and last among them.
The response includes a severe warning about disbelief after such a sign. The passage does not give a menu or the exact number and appearance of the diners. The learning sequence is assistance, a request for reassurance, prayer, and heightened responsibility. A blessing can increase accountability as well as bring relief.
