Harun and the shared mission

Musa asks Allah to expand his capacity, ease his task, and enable people to understand his speech. He requests Harun as a helper from his family so that they may together remember and glorify Allah. He also voices concern about the killing in Egypt and the possibility that the people will reject him.
Allah grants the request and instructs both brothers to go to Pharaoh. They are told to speak gently, in the hope that he may take heed or become mindful. Their message includes the demand to release the Children of Israel and cease their oppression. The gentleness of speech does not soften that demand into approval of tyranny.
The shared mission offers an important relationship model: Musa’s responsibility is supported by Harun’s strengths. Help, careful speech, and remembrance of Allah belong within the commission. Read the connected Harun collection for his role during the confrontation and his later difficulty among the people.
