CHAPTER 03

From the caravan to Egypt

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

A caravan sends a water-drawer, who discovers Yusuf. The travelers treat him as merchandise and he is sold for a small price. The account moves quickly from a hidden child at the well to life in another household, showing how little control he has over the transfer.

The man who purchases him in Egypt tells his wife to treat him well, considering possible benefit or adoption. The Qur’an describes Allah establishing Yusuf in the land and teaching him interpretation. When he reaches maturity, he is granted judgment and knowledge.

The verses name Egypt but do not identify the well, the caravan’s complete route, or the dynasty. The map provides geographic context without filling those gaps. This chapter also explains a contrast that continues throughout the collection: people may assign someone a low market value, while Allah grants knowledge and a future they cannot foresee.
