The king’s dream and a plan for scarcity

The king dreams of seven lean cows consuming seven fat ones, and green and dry ears of grain. His advisers cannot explain the dream. The former prisoner remembers Yusuf and returns to seek his interpretation.
Yusuf describes seven years of cultivation followed by seven hard years that will consume the retained supplies, then a year of relief. He gives practical advice: leave much of the harvested grain in its ears, taking only what is needed for eating. The response moves from understanding a dream to preserving food for a population.
This chapter provides a useful visual sequence of abundance, storage, scarcity, and relief. It is a sequence stated in the account, not a claim about the Egyptian calendar or a recovered economic archive. Yusuf’s knowledge becomes a public benefit through preparation. Trust in Allah is expressed here alongside careful planning, rather than in opposition to it.
