CHAPTER 18

The accusation against ‘A’ishah

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

The account of the false accusation against ‘A’ishah is preserved in her extended narration and addressed in Surah An-Nur. A damaging allegation circulates, producing distress within the household and community. The revelation identifies it as falsehood and condemns the ease with which people repeat what they have no knowledge of.

The passage teaches believers to respond with a good opinion, to recognize the need for evidence, and not to treat the matter as light when it is serious before Allah. The individual experience and the community’s speech are both central to the episode.

This chapter is kept distinct from a generic description of family life because it provides a concrete account of harm, patience, and vindication. The collection avoids sensational speculation and does not reconstruct private scenes beyond the report. It connects the Seerah with a lasting responsibility: hearing a claim does not give permission to circulate it as truth.
