CHAPTER 29

The final illness and death

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

The final illness and death occur in the conventional chronology in 11 AH. Reports describe the Prophet asking about his turn among the households and receiving care in ‘A’ishah’s home. The illness is a human reality within a life of extraordinary responsibility.

After his death, the community experiences profound shock. Abu Bakr addresses the people and recites Qur’an 3:144, recalling that Muḥammad is a messenger and that messengers have passed before him. Worship belongs to the ever-living Allah, while love and grief for the messenger remain deeply human.

The collection closes the earthly chronology without pretending the history of the community ends there. His teaching, example, and revelation continue to guide. The next chapter connects that legacy with the earlier prophets and the reader’s responsibility. Dates are presented as the standard historical framework, while the factual scene and reported words carry their own references.
