The pledge and a new community

The Seerah places the pledges associated with ‘Aqabah before the move to Madinah. People from Yathrib receive the message and enter commitments that will shape the future community. The authenticated pledge narration records prohibitions on shirk, theft, unlawful sexual conduct, killing children, slander, and disobedience in what is right.
These commitments join worship with conduct. A gathering of supporters is not treated merely as a political opportunity; it involves accountability for how people live. The familiar chronology includes teaching in Yathrib and preparations for a community able to receive the migrants.
Surah Al-Hashr later praises the people of the home of migration and faith for love and generosity toward those who arrive. Read the pledge and that description together: commitment and welcome are complementary foundations. The chapter prepares the Hijrah without pretending that every later institution is already present at this stage.
