CHAPTER 04

The call and its early listeners

Illustrative environment; not a reconstruction of this episode
Conceptual artwork · No prophet is depicted

The mission includes the command to arise and warn, magnify the Lord, preserve purity, avoid wrongdoing, and persevere. The Qur’an also instructs the Prophet ﷺ to warn his nearest relatives and show humility toward the believers who follow him. Calling and care are joined from the beginning.

An authenticated account of the gathering at Safa records his warning to the Quraysh and the hostile response of Abu Lahab. The early community includes members of his household and companions whose acceptance and support appear throughout the Seerah. Their experiences should be followed as real responses to the message rather than a decorative list of names.

The setting is a society with strong family ties and established worship around the House. The call challenges inherited religious practice while addressing people who know the caller. This helps explain why the mission involves both personal trust and intense resistance. The collection does not confuse a familiar teacher’s reputation with automatic acceptance of everything he teaches.
